The presentation of the funding notice marked the start of a comprehensive research project that goes back to the initiative of the National Platform Future of Mobility (NPM).

A total of eleven sub-projects are designed to help answer the following question more effectively: How can digitization make the transportation system more sustainable, safer, more comfortable and more reliable? This applies equally to the movement of people and goods, whether in rural areas with their specific mobility requirements or in an urban context.

Tino Baumann, CFO of [ui!], accepted the funding decision from Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. He said: "We want to use the digitalization boost for our mobility and make innovative new services available to people. We are gaining valuable insights from the parallel testing of a wide range of intelligent mobility solutions. Together we want to find out how we can make new mobility attractive for urban and rural areas and thus make a contribution to climate protection.

The social debate on digital mobility services is at the heart of the overall project and is intended to provide important insights into which mobility solutions prove themselves in practice and in what form. The planned sub-projects range from a mobility budget instead of a company car to the creation of a provider-independent mobility platform and solutions for particularly vulnerable road users. An essential characteristic of the project is the continuous and comprehensive involvement of the citizens.

Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg: "With the Reallabor Hamburg, a digital infrastructure will be developed that makes traffic safer, more comfortable and more climate-friendly. This includes micro-depots to reduce logistics traffic, autonomous driving, on-demand shuttles and an app that networks a wide range of mobility services. All projects will be tested in live operation and presented at the World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems in October 2021 in our city. I wish the Hochbahn and all its partners every success in their projects for the mobility of the future".

The initiative comes from the AG 3 Digitization for the Mobility Sector of NPM

may be considered.

"In the NPM, we have already been able to develop many recommendations for action on the digitization of mobility over the past year and a half. However, complex issues such as the willingness of citizens to change their usage behavior when new mobility offers are introduced or the ability of different modes of transport to work together in intermodal mobility offers require new solution approaches to be tested in reality. The Reallaboratory in Hamburg is the room in which it will be demonstrated over the next few months whether and how ideas and possibilities for largely networked mobility can actually be implemented in everyday life," explains Klaus Fröhlich, until the end of June 2020 member of the Board of Management of BMW AG and head of AG 3 of NPM.

"In recent years, Hamburg has developed into a hub for intelligent, forward-looking mobility solutions. The RealLabHH heralds the next evolutionary step. The integration of relevant players right down to the project level that we are striving for here means additional momentum for innovation," adds Henrik Falk, Chairman of the Board of Hamburger Hochbahn AG.

Presentation of the results at the ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg

The central goal of the RealLabHH project is to develop recommendations for the environmentally and climate-friendly redesign of the mobility system. At the ITS World Congress 2021, the results and demonstrators of the RealLabHH will be presented in and around Hamburg. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is hosting the world's largest congress for intelligent transport systems and services, which will take place from October 11 to 15, 2021. The RealLabHH project will run until the end of 2021 and is being funded by the BMVI with around 20.5 million euros.
